How one can Disable Optimized Battery Charging on Mac in macOS 14 Sonoma

Just like iOS, macOS also offers a battery health feature called “Optimized Battery Charging” which is designed to extend the battery lifespan of your Mac. When enabled, it automatically stops charging at 80% in order to extend the battery lifespan of your Mac.

While there is no doubt that it’s well thought out and designed to prevent the battery from aging faster, there are times when you would like to disable Optimized Battery Changing on Mac to fully juice up your notebook without any hindrance whatsoever. Especially when you are on the go.

Though I’m fond of the Optimized Charging feature, I keep it turned off so that I can fully power up my MacBook. Hence, it’s good to have a dedicated setting to manage it.

1. First off, launch the System Settings app on your Mac. Or, click on the Apple menu at the top left corner of the screen and choose System Settings in the menu.

2. Now, choose Battery.

3. Click on the info button next to Battery Health.

4. After that, click on the switch next to Optimized Battery Charging.

5. Next, a popup will appear on the screen with two options: Turn Off Until Tomorrow or Turn Off (completely disable the feature). Choose the preferred option.

6. In the end, make sure to click on Done in the menu to confirm the action.

That’s pretty much it! Going forward, the charging of your MacBook will no longer automatically stop at 80%. Hence, you can rest assured that your notebook will charge to 100% every single time you plug it into a power outlet.

Of course, if you ever wish to bring this battery health feature back, head into the same info menu and then turn on the toggle for Optimized Battery Charging in the end.

Wrap up…

For all being a notable feature, Optimized Charging may not win every one. That’s why it’s better to have the desired control over it. What’s your take on this feature and whether or not you find it helpful? Use the comments section below to share your thoughts.
